No more embassies in capital cities

August 12th, 2015 Leave a comment Go to comments

Here’s an idea for decentralization.

Have countries set up their embassies outside capital cities.

As awkward as this may sound, the advantages are these:

  • Ambassadors and diplomatic personnel experience¬† a country first hand, no red carpet treatment, no special house on a leafy suburb.
  • Identifying the needs of the most marginalized people becomes easier by living alongside lesser known cities or towns.

So if anyone is thinking for a clever place to set up an embassy, one of the most suitable places would be either the third most populated place in the country, one that does not even have an airport in it.
